For the video we chose to demonstrate our software components for
real-time 3D data based obstacle avoidance and on-line 3DOF-SLAM.
The video shows a KURT robot equipped with a 3D laser scanner
wandering around in an example scenario. By continuously pitching
the laser scanner, the robot is able to avoid obstacles that would
not be perceivable with a standard 2D laser scanner mounted in the
same height. Simultaneously the robot builds an internal environment
representation modeling the visited regions. We chose these components
because we got a lot of positive feedback during the competitions in
Atlanta 2007.
